When it comes to dates it can be difficult to find the perfect spot, whether it be a first date or just wanting to go out to enjoy each others company. I've decided to put together a blog post on some of my favourite date spots in and around the city.
1. The first date - Hillhead Bookclub
West End of Glasgow
I don't know about anyone else but when it comes to first dates the last thing I want to do is be eating in front of someone I don't really know, I know some people are fine with this but I get so self-conscious I would much rather go for drinks or do an activity.
For a first date spot I have picked the Hillhead Bookclub - was this me and my boyfriends first date spot, yes...maybe I am biased. The vibes are great, it is super cosy if you get one of the upstairs tables, they have ping pong if you fancy it and the drinks are so good. They offer cocktails, beers, wine whatever. I love the watermelon margaritas here, strange as I am usually not a fan of watermelon but they are so good from here.
Another plus of Hillhead Bookclub is, it's a short walk from the subway station if you are travelling for your date. If you are visiting on the weekend I would recommend reserving a table as it is usually busy here, they have a disco ball and a DJ that plays, it's such a fun vibe and the perfect first date spot in my opinion.
2. The spiritualist - drinks and snacks
City Centre
Another great choice for drinks is The Spiritualist in town. I've visited here a few times, not all on dates lol. They offer unique cocktails crafted by the bartenders. The spiritualist is such a fun bar to visit, it's classy inside so you can dress for the occasion, however, inside the vibes are really chilled, the cocktails are really fun and the staff are all really friendly. The last time I visited here I tried around 4 different cocktails from the menu and they were all so nice, each one being different in terms of presentation and taste.
They offer a menu of small plates and snacks you can grab whilst visiting.
I would say this is more of a pricey date night, if you stick to cocktails all night, but it is such a good vibe inside and if you want to try some new cocktails I would really recommend. It is also located in the city centre of Glasgow so can be easily accessed by train.
3. Bar Vini - Pasta date night
Southside of Glasgow
Bar Vini is located in the Southside of Glasgow, get off at Pollockshields East on the train and it is a two minute walk. It is the perfect cosy date night in my opinion. A small candlelit restaurant serving good Italian pasta, wine, beer and cocktails.
We visited here a few weeks ago for a date night and I have been recommending it to my family and friends ever since. We got the meat and cheese board to start, which was a selection of meats, cheese, olives, breadsticks and tomatoes. We then got the seasonal veggie pasta and the beef ragu with a side of bread, I won't lie I think about this pasta A LOT. It was all so fresh and delicious.
We ordered a bottle of wine for the table and then instead of dessert we opted to try some of the cocktails the bar staff had to offer, and again like everything else they didn't disappoint . All the cocktails are recipes made by the bar staff, you can ask for your classic but it is fun to try something different.
Overall, the staff and service was great, the staff in here are so helpful, if you are unsure about the menu or want some alternative they will try their best to sort it for you. I would recommend booking beforehand as it is a small restaurant and everyone wants to try it.
These are three of my favourite date night spots, theres many more we still want to try so I will possibly do a part two to this blog. Let me know your favourite spot for a date in and around Glasgow or if you are thinking of trying any of these :)
